So even though today was my last day of thesis class (I have another semester of it btw but I'm switching to a different teacher, or rather, teachers, next semester), it was still the shittiest class session yet.

Okay, first off, for the critiques today, the teacher was going around the room in the order that everyone's work was placed on the wall. He deliberately skipped mine, and he had also done that last week. Yeah, reeeeal mature. >_> Hell, there was another girl he said should probably switch to another teacher next semester, and he didn't even skip over her.

Second, there was another teacher there as a guest who also offered some helpful advice to some of the students (including me, which I appreciated). Of course my thesis teacher (who I will refer to as "TW" from here on out) had the gall to say something about me to him "in private". In other words, I heard TW say "Rebecca", then lower his voice so I couldn't hear the rest of what he said to the other teacher. Which obviously means he was probably saying something insulting about me. Again, real mature. =_=

And then of course when I tried to defend my work to maybe convince him that at least it wasn't -total- shit, he still thought I was giving him excuses! EVERYTHING I SAY is an excuse to him, wtf. Even when it's a legitimate explanation. It's like he doesn't even listen to me because he's too busy viewing me through a distorted lens where he sees me as some lazy-ass slacker who doesn't give a shit when really I worked my ass off several times during that class, and when I didn't it was only because I was really discouraged by the overly-harsh critiques he gave me (namely "it looks like something a middle schooler would draw" and "your work hasn't improved at all").

Also, TW said at some point to the other teacher during class that he thought the better students in the class would somehow raise the level of work everyone else did. Uh, sorry, it doesn't fucking work like that. TW, YOU are the teacher, not the other students.

Luckily the class is OVER so I don't have to deal with this shit anymore but ARGH. I don't think I've ever experienced such childish and irrational behavior from any teacher in my entire life. >_>

On a more positive note I did feel a lot better after reading Sugizo's Myspace blog. So thank you Sugizo. <3

I would love to go back to Japan for this. <3 Only problem is that once again school ends on May 4th, which means I can't just jet off to Japan for that and be back in time for the last day of school or it'll be too expensive and rushed and such. D= Sooo I'll just have to try to make sure that when I re-work my schedule for next semester (which I have to do anyway since I'm switching thesis classes) there's no Monday classes. XD That way maybe I can make a whole trip of it and spend at least a week or two there instead of a couple days. XD"

Wow look at me already planning for this as if it's going to happen. XD"

But yeah, I want to find out more information about what exactly is going to happen at the memorial service before I try to put any of my crazy plans into action. XD But a part of me wants to go pretty much no matter what it is because I really want to be involved in something special and official for hide. Especially since I wasn't able to go to the Memorial Summit (also because of school and their stupid end-on-a-Monday-so-everyone's-stuck-here-for-the-weekend-just-to-take-one-more-day-of-class-omgwtf schedule) and didn't get to see the hide museum (even though the first time I went to Japan the museum was still open, but I didn't know about hide back then D=).

Celebrating hide's birthday today was fun. =DD I spent most of the beginning of the day listening to a hide-related music playlist I made on iTunes (by hide-related I mean both songs by him [including X Japan and Zilch] and songs by other musicians he likes). Then I went out to the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park for dinner. And normally that place has a long line because their food is so good, but today because it had rained earlier and the place is outdoors, there was literally no line (other people were there, but I was able to walk right up and order, yay). XD And then I went to Union Square to go see The Princess and the Frog. =D It was an awesome movie, and I think it'll definitely end up being one of the Disney classics. <3 I might post a more detailed review some time, but it'll probably contain spoilers. XD"

Also, when I got to the theater, there was a homeless man sitting outside. I still had the gingerbread-flavored milkshake I'd gotten from the Shake Shack, so I decided to give him the rest of it (it was a big shake, so there was definitely plenty left ^^"). I've always liked helping people in need, but I think even more so since my experiences in line at the Dir en grey concerts last month. But yeah, I hope he liked the shake. XD"

Oh, and the lemon meringue pie I posted a picture of? Tastes just as good as it looks, if not more so. <3 And I'm not just saying that because I baked it. XD" The recipe is Alton Brown's btw. =D

I finished coloring that drawing of him I posted here a while back just in time for the occasion. XD Here's the final product.

Also, I baked a Lemon Meringue Pie tonight. =D And decided to take a photo of it with a few other hide-related things I've acquired recently. XD

current song: Dir en grey- Akuro no Oka

Random observation about the girls' names used in Dir en grey songs:

As you probably know, Dir en grey have two songs called Jessica and Audrey. My sister's name is Jessica, and my mom has a close friend who she's known since middle school named Audrey. Also, in Karasu, the name Linda is mentioned, and I have an aunt named Linda.

In other words, all of the names are names of people I know. =D On top of that, they're all family (or in the case of my mom's friend, almost-family).

Now I'm just waiting for them to write a song called Rebecca. =P *shot*

Akuro No Oka just came up on my iTunes shuffle. Yayness. <3333

Also, I found out recently that Toshiya used to go to art school. =D Which since I'm an art school student myself makes that indescribably awesome. XD

So today I went out and bought the ingredients I need to make a lemon meringue pie for hide's birthday. <3 I still need to get pink decorating sugar so I can use the spider stencil I found online around Halloween and make a pink spider on top of the pie. XD But otherwise I've got everything. =D I was actually going to make a cake instead, but then I had a dream a few nights ago where I'd made a lemon meringue pie, and hide was eating a slice, and he said he really liked it and that I should make it for his birthday. XD

I also went to Book Off to see if I could find a Yoshitaka Amano art book I wanted to buy, but no such luck. D= They did, however, have a bunch of X Japan and hide CDs in stock. =D So I bought King of Psyborg Rock Star (I had the mp3s of it on my Desktop computer, but not a hard copy of the CD) and the live recordings from X Japan's On The Verge of Destruction live. =D

Now I just need to make a drawing for hide (or finish working on that one I posted a while back XD) and I'm all set for Sunday~! <3

Edit- Also, got the Sims 3 expansion pack (World Adventures) today. It's awesome so far! =D

Do you think society puts too much pressure on people to be in relationships and/or have children? Do you think this ostracizes people who would be perfectly content to remain single and/or child-free? Is this pressure worse around the holidays?

I meant to make a post about this actually, so talk about perfect timing. XD

But yeah, I definitely get that a lot. D= I used to think that getting married and having kids was something I -had- to do some day, and that when the time came I would be magically ready for it somehow. But now that I know better, I've changed my perspective quite a bit. And in some cases, nothing has changed, but I'm able to admit my thoughts much more freely on these issues now.

Regarding relationships, I think not only is there pressure to be in one but also pressure to be in a certain -kind- of relationship. Namely a heterosexual one. Unfortunately, a lot of people still haven't accepted LGBTs yet. Not just here in America, but the world. I just heard this incredibly disturbing story about how in Uganda, they're trying to pass an "Anti-Homosexuality" bill, which among other things would make it legal to KILL someone who was suspected of being LGBT. Wtf humanity.

Honestly, in a way, doesn't a relationship between two men or two women make more sense? I mean, it seems like they would relate to each other better than two people of the opposite sex. Then again, gender is a construct of society (and therefore it's another societal pressure that wasn't included here but that I could write a whole lot about, but I'll save that for another time), and I know not all men are the same and neither are all women. XD"

But still, you hear about so many straight marriages that end badly. Just look at the widely publicized messy divorce Jon and Kate went through (never watched their show, but the headlines about their divorce were friggin EVERYWHERE for WEEKS, argh). Not to mention the recent Tiger Woods issue. And remember Britney Spears' wedding in Vegas?

As for personal experience, my parents have been together for over 20 years, and my grandparents on both sides were married for over 50 years, but they're the exceptions to the rule in my family. My mom's three sisters and my dad's sister (in other words, my aunts) have all been divorced at least once.

Now I'm not saying all straight marriages are bad and that it's impossible to find happiness in one. Again, look at my parents and grandparents. But I think that if society put less pressure on people to be in relationships, we'd have fewer people rushing into something only to end up getting divorced. And if there was more tolerance for LGBT people, they'd be able to not have to worry about being discriminated against based on who they fall in love with and decide to marry. And yes, there have been cases of closeted gays and lesbians marrying someone of the opposite gender, only to end up either divorcing them after they come out, or keeping that part of themself a secret for their whole life.

As for the kids issue, well, I've always been kind of scared of the idea of being pregnant. I mean, I've always been self-conscious about my stomach, so I don't need anything to make it look bigger kthnx. Especially since I have enough trouble losing weight as it is. Then there's labor, which nearly everyone says hurts like hell. And there's also the possibility of dying during childbirth, and not being able to sleep because of the baby crying at odd hours, and having to change dirty diapers...

Selfish reasons aside, there are also more important reasons I'd rather not have kids. For one thing, we have a bit of an overpopulation problem right now. Why contribute to that? Especially when there's people like Octomom and that one couple who's been popping out a baby every year for 20 years now. Ick. Think of all the extra resources being wasted on these families-that-could-fill-a-whole-restaurant when there's people living out on the streets starving every day because they can barely find enough food for themselves.

Also, look at all the kids out there in foster care who were probably abandoned for some reason or another and need a loving home. Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Madonna haven't adopted all of them you know. =P So if I do ever have kids, I would much rather adopt a kid before I even think about having any of my own.

The other thing is that not everyone is cut out to be a parent honestly. I've seen so many cases of parents being horrible to their kids or just plain not caring enough about them, and I think these are probably mostly people who felt like they "had" to have children but didn't really want to. Or who didn't realize what a big responsibility it is.

Anyway, back to the societal pressure thing, I've told my parents and close friends about my decision to not have kids, and it's usually met with "Oh, well that's your decision", or "Oh, well I still want to have a kid some day". In other words, I can tell they're still kinda disappointed with my thoughts on this. D= I mean, I'm not saying everyone has to agree with me. After all, if everyone stopped having kids then eventually we'd have the opposite problem and there'd be no people left. XD" I just don't think everybody should have to get married and have kids and have a job and live up to mainstream society's picture of an "ideal" life either. Nor should they feel like they have to live up to that or else they're doing something wrong.

Okay disregard my last post. XD I GOT A TICKET AFTER ALL YAY. =D

Ended up going for the slightly-lower-priced ones since apparently they were out of the higher-priced-yet-better-seats ones. XD" But still, I got a ticket~!

Yay for being persistent and for the fact that it seems the main reason things weren't working before was because of a site glitch apparently rather than tickets actually selling out. XD"

Muse finally announced the first six dates and locations for their US tour~! They're coming to NYC on March 5th, 2010 and playing at Madison Square Garden~! =DDDDDDDDD Perfect timing because my spring break this year starts on March 9th, so I'll still be here in NYC and I probably won't have much (or any) homework to worry about, yay. Presale starts tomorrow morning. I am SO THERE OMG.

You guys know how long I've wanted to see Muse live, right? Riiight? =DDDDDD And how they're like one of the few non-Jrock bands I get this fangirly about? XD So yeah, uber psyched right now.

General thoughts
- Zedd's love for food = epic win
- Seriously, Shota has a thing for RICHARD, NOT ZEDD
- Maybe it's because it's Zedd-centric, but so far I am largely unimpressed with the plot of this episode
- Shota is so out of character. She's not acting anything like she's supposed to
- Richard being annoyed by riddles :D!
- Magic doesn't work like that in this world. In book 2, Zedd turns copper coins into gold ones, but I don't remember him ever making things appear from thin air.
- Anyone else think the actress playing the blond "Princess"'s accent sounds way too modern?
- Marching into the rift? Wtf? That's not possible!
- Book!Shota was never so easily dominated by Cara :/
- You can't just walk into the Underworld! The closest you could ever get to it was the boundary, and even there Kahlan needed a Night Wisp to guide her, and if she had touched the boundary, she have instantly died.
I'm more disappointed in this episode than usual :[ Even from an unbiased, book-unrelated view, it was kind of boring.

Has everyone seen the commercials where you text a question and get an answer texted back?

I sent it a couple trivial questions to it ("Who is Naoko Takeuchi?" and "In Wicked Lovely, who is the queen of the High Court?"). It sent me back correct answers both times.

Being bored at work and on a whim, I decided to text:

What is regalia_myth?

and got back:

Regalia Myth is an action/adventure comic book by Miame Irohara.

I about died.

Regalia Myth! The greatest book/graphic novel never written!

I really need to get started on it ^-^;;.

I made yet another higanbana tattoo sketch. XD I did this one on lined paper because I wasn't expecting it to turn out as good as it did, plus it was the only paper I had when I decided to draw it. Also, I used my digital camera instead of my scanner to upload it this time (btw have I mentioned I finally found the cable that lets me upload my pictures to my computer so I don't have to borrow Noni's computer for that anymore?
